The Boldklub – The First Youth Assessment

Just a short post this time around, as we take a look at some of the most promising young talent that Lyngby have to offer right off the bat.

Adam Sørensen

Sorensen

Left-Back (Complete Wing-Back) – 2.5* Current Ability – 5* Potential Ability

Adam is possibly the prospect I’m most excited by. Already a part of the first-team squad, he made the breakthrough last season with 10 Superliga appearances, and I’m going to allow him the opportunity to claim the starting berth as his own.

He’s a very quick, agile full-back, who is as comfortable going forward as he is defending. His mental attributes are also very good for a player his age, especially at this level, with no obvious weaknesses. He does have a major deficiency in the air, at only 5 foot 5, and aerial attributes peaking at a shocking 4 out of 20. I think what he can bring to the side outweighs that weakness, however, and I’m excited to see how he develops.

What can we expect? I’d say that Adam Sørensen can go to the very highest levels of the game, with all the attributes to become a dynamic full-back that can offer a really damaging threat to opponents. I want Adam to be here as long as possible, but we’ll have to progress quickly to keep him happy, as I’d imagine bigger clubs are keeping an eye on him.

Frederik Winther

Winther

Centre Back (Ball Playing Defender) – 1.5* Current Ability – 5* Potential Ability

Frederik is a young centre-back with a lot of strengths, but also a lot of work to do before he can be considered ready for regular first team football. I’d like to train him to be more comfortable playing as a ball-player from the back, as he already possesses the technical attributes for it, he does, however, have a severe weakness in his physicals, with poor pace and awful stamina. He’s been promoted to the first-team squad, to train and take part in the mentoring groups, but he’s still available to play reserve football which is where he’ll get his minutes.

What can we expect? In the short-term, not a whole lot. He will be in and around the first-team squad but I don’t consider him to be close to pushing for a starting role. With the right development, he could become a very important player for us.

Gustav Marcussen

Marcussen

Left Winger (Inside Forward) – 3.5* Current Ability – 5* Potential Ability

Gustav is the player furthest along his development from my picks. Already one of the strongest members of the first-team squad at the age of 20, he made his breakthrough last season with 16 Superliga appearances but struggled to provide much of a meaningful output, with only one goal.

He is dangerous cutting in from the left-hand side onto his stronger right foot, which is a role I’m looking to utilize him in, however, he does struggle in a flat midfield four as the right winger, which is the other role I envisage him playing in our current set of tactics.

What can we expect? Gustav is already a player with great quality and still has room to grow. A bit of work to make him a little bit more explosive and we could have a genuine wonderkid on our hands. I do however expect to see a far greater output in terms of goals and assists from him this year, especially as we are playing at a lower level than the side did last year.

Oliver Funch

Funch

Goalkeeper (Sweeper Keeper) – 1.5* Current Ability – 5* Potential Ability

Oliver is a young goalkeeper with very solid technical attributes for his age, but lacks somewhat physically, most importantly with his poor Agility. He is at a very similar stage to Frederik Winther in his development and has also been promoted to train with the first-team squad. He is the club’s third-choice goalkeeper at present, however, I would be reluctant to play him competitively unless absolutely necessary as I don’t think he’s ready to perform to that level. His game-time this year will come from Under 19s football unless we receive a good loan offer for him.

What can we expect? His path to a first-team spot is blocked by an experienced head and a slightly more developed young goalkeeper (#spoilers) so it’s very unlikely that we’ll see him play on a regular basis anytime soon. He can, however, go on to be a very useful goalkeeper and provide a homegrown backup option in future years. Can I see him becoming our long-term first choice? Possibly not.

Oskar Snorre

Snorre

Goalkeeper (Sweeper Keeper) – 3* Current Ability – 4.5* Potential Ability

Oskar is another player who made his breakthrough last season, making 14 Superliga appearances. At the age of 19, I’m going to show faith and proclaim him as my first-choice goalkeeper, as he’s at a similar level to our other option, 34-year-old Thomas Mikkelsen, who is in on loan.

Oskar is a very well rounded goalkeeper, with his Reflexes and Positioning particularly pleasing attributes. Fairly comfortable with the ball at his feet too, he fits the Sweeper Keeper role that I want to implement.

What can we expect? As stated above, Oskar is our first choice goalkeeper and will be giving the chance to develop with a lot of game time. This won’t be unconditional though, as I won’t tolerate poor performances just to aid his development. If he plays well, Oskar can be in the side for a long time as we hopefully progress and grow as a club.

So there they are, the 5 players that I have the highest hopes at the very start of the save. These are definitely not the only promising young players we have, and others will be introduced if they start to make an impact or show an increased promise.

Thanks for reading.
